Reaching out to the Unemployed of DC, Maryland and Virginia

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee 26 is a non-profit organization that has trained apprentice electricians in the DC metro area since 1941. Since that time we have been funded by the members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local Union 26, and the Washington DC Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).
Over the past 7 decades, the JATC has provided cutting edge vocational training to men and women with no experience in the field of electrical construction; putting exciting careers, with family sustaing wages and benefits, within reach of literally thousands of families.
We are actively looking to build partnerships and develop strategies with Workforce Development Agencies, WICs, WIBs, Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Programs, High Schools and Youth programs that will allow the JATC 26 to help as many unemployed citizens of the DC, MD, and VA areas as possible to take advantage of the programs we offer. Please Contact Sean Myers, Special Projects Coordinator at 301-429-6942 or smyers@jatc26.org to discuss strategies geared towards educating your staff and participants about the true "Earn While you Learn" opportunity that exists here at the JATC.

Here are some quick facts about the JATC 26 Apprenticeship Programs.
  • Sucessful applicants are employed by one of the over 230 signatory contractors that draw manpower exclusively from Local Union 26. This employment begins the day you are accepted into the program, NOT AFTER YOU COMPLETE THE TRAINING.

  • Beyond a $20 processing fee that occurs at the time of application, and a one time fee of $50 payable upon the date of indenture, there are no costs to the apprentice for the five year training program. No tuition payments, no student loans, and no "reinbursement upon completion" to hope for.

  • Succesful applicants with no experience enjoy a starting hourly wage of $16.92 This wage is paid for time in the classroom and on the job. Full benefits for the employee and his or her immediate family engage after 60 days.

  • Here is a table that explains the scheduled pay increases for inside wireman apprentices who move through the program with satisfactory grades and on-the-job performance.
